Why Go Back to Church?

By Pastor Clint W. Kerns, ThD, Bible Baptist Church of Crossville

The past few years have changed how people view many things… including Church. But while the world may change, God’s truth does not. For the believer, Church is not optional; it’s essential. If you’ve been away, I want to lovingly encourage you: it’s time to come back to Church.

1. God Commands It

The Bible is clear—gathering together is not just a tradition, it’s a command. Hebrews 10:25 says:

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

Staying home may be comfortable, but comfort is not the goal—obedience is. God designed the church as a spiritual family where His people grow together in grace.

2. The Church Strengthens Your Faith

You cannot live a victorious Christian life without biblical preaching and fellowship. Romans 10:17 says:

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Yes, you can read your Bible at home—and you should. But the preaching of God’s Word by a man of God, called and equipped to teach truth, is one of the primary ways God strengthens our faith. The local Church is a pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy 3:15), and we need that foundation now more than ever.

3. Your Presence Encourages Others

Church is not just about what you get—it’s also about what you give. Your smile, your handshake, your faithfulness—it all matters. Galatians 6:2 says:

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”

When you stay away, someone misses the encouragement you would have brought. But when you show up, you send a clear message: “God is worthy, and His people matter.”

4. Jesus Loves the Church

The Church isn’t man’s idea—it’s Christ’s. Ephesians 5:25 reminds us:

“Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.”

If Jesus loved the Church enough to die for it, how can we treat it as optional? Coming back to Church is not just about attendance… it’s about aligning your heart with what Jesus loves.

Come Home—We’re Waiting

Maybe you’ve been hurt. Maybe you drifted during the chaos of recent years. Maybe life just got busy. But friend, it’s time. You don’t need a new resolution—you need a return to your spiritual roots. God is not angry; He’s welcoming. The doors of Bible Baptist Church are open, and so are our arms.

Let this Sunday be the Sunday you come back to Church—and come back to what really matters.

“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.”
—Psalm 122:1
