Devotion 2 – The Painful “Why”

Many “Whys” do not come in quiet study, but in moments of deep suffering. Job, crushed under grief and covered with sores, groaned, “Why died I not from the womb?” (Job 3:11). His question was raw, honest, and desperate. Pain has a way of tearing the question “Why?” from the depths of our soul.

Yet God did not rebuke Job for asking. He listened, He endured Job’s cries, and in the end, He revealed Himself. Job never got the full explanation, but he gained a greater revelation of who God is. That’s the lesson—God Himself is the answer when the answer to “Why?” is not given.

Even our Lord Jesus cried from the cross, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). He understands every wounded “Why” you whisper in your midnight hour.
