Of all the questions that trouble the human heart, none is shorter in length and longer in lingering than the word “Why?” It is the most mysterious word in the Bible. From the fall of man in Genesis to the final tears wiped away in Revelation, men and women have wrestled with this question.
In John 13:7, Peter could not understand why the Lord of glory would stoop to wash his feet. Jesus answered with words that every Christian must carry through life: “What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.” The perplexing “Why” forces us to choose whether we will demand to understand before we obey or trust while we wait.
The Lord does not always explain Himself in the moment. But He always assures us of His heart. We may not grasp the reason, but we can rest in the relationship.
