Day 1 – Begin with the Bible
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” – Psalm 119:105
The first and greatest step a Christian can take each morning is to open the Word of God. Before the phone rings, the news blares, or the day rushes in with its demands, the child of God ought to quietly sit before the pages of Holy Scripture. God has not left us to grope through life in darkness; He has given us a lamp—His Word—to guide our every step. The Bible is not simply a book for Sunday sermons or Wednesday night Bible study; it is our daily bread, our spiritual compass, and our unwavering light in a dark world.
Psalm 119:105 reminds us that God's Word doesn’t shine a spotlight on the entire road ahead, but it gives enough light for the next step. That means each morning we must come back again, seeking fresh direction, renewed wisdom, and daily instruction from heaven. Skipping time in the Word is like walking into the battlefield of life with no sword in hand. If the Word is to guide our path, we must begin each day by opening it, reading it, and allowing it to dwell richly in us.
Too many believers attempt to navigate life by feelings, opinions, or the shifting winds of popular thought. But feelings change. Opinions fail. The Word of God abides forever. When we begin with the Bible, we are building our thoughts, choices, and attitudes upon an unshakable foundation. The Lord has never failed to guide a man or woman who starts the day with open eyes, an open heart, and an open Bible.
Make it your priority—before your feet hit the floor, or before you step into the world—to first step into the Word. There you will find the lamp that lights the way and the voice of your Shepherd guiding your soul. Let today begin not with the noise of the world, but with the whisper of God.
